Driver Side Window

Well, long story short, my driver side window will not go down. I am able to let the other windows down with the buttons on the drivers side. I did take the switch out the door to see if there was a loose connection or something, but didn't see anything, and the only thing I hear when I press the button is a small click, as if there is a relay in the switch itself. I tried looking for a fuse for the windows, but couldn't seem to find one. Now if the other 3 windows are working off the drivers side switches, could it possibly be the window motor, or is it something else?

When you attempt to lower the drivers window with the switch , is there any noise coming from the door ? Can you hear the window motor running ? If not , it could be the motor has died , could also be the switch itself . The button for the drivers window is the most used of all the buttons in the 4 button door switch . It could be simply worn out from use or perhaps moisture or dirt has gotten into the contacts . You could take the door panel off and see if the motor is getting power when the switch is activated . If not , see if the switch itself is getting power . If it is , then the switch is probably bad and will have to be replaced . My wife's Impala drivers window quit working recently . All the other windows operated fine . I replaced the 4 way door switch and that solved the problem . I bought it at autozone , think it was about $ 70 ? Let us now what you find out , good luck !

Well there is no noise coming the door, but when I hit any of the other buttons to let any of the windows up, the RPMs drop a bit ( the windows are up at the time), but when I try the drivers window, RPMs don't drop. Sounds like another expensive job for the dealer

You can diagnose this problem yourself with simple tools such as a test light. There are two components involved to make your driver window operate, your master window switch and your power window motor. You do have to remove your door panel to effectively test either of these parts to determine which one is at fault. After removing your door panel, disconnect the electrical connector going into the window motor. There is a brown wire and a dark blue wire comming from the switch to your window motor. by turning the key on, use a probe lamp (test light) to test for power at either one of these wires while pressing the window switch either up or down. If the lamp lights up, that we know the problem is the motor itself. if the lamp does not light up, the window switch itself most likely is the problem.

I wouldn't mind tearing into the door, but the problem is that I live in Michigan and have no garage, and its like 4 Degrees outside... Is there any way to test just at the switch? But here is the weird thing... It was working the night before just fine...

Luckily you don't have to rip the whole door apart to test just the switch. Just remove the 2 torx screws in the handle, and pull it out, the switch is snapped into that, and is easily removed.

***PROBLEM SOLVED***
It was only the switch. Luckly autozone had one in stock for $85.00, and it took me less than 3 mins to repair... And to think I was gonna take it to the dealer to figure out

Any time you have a problem , come to this forum before going to a dealer . There's lots of help to be had here . You may not always get a solution but it's worth the effort ! Congrats !

Well, I was kinda curious of why the switch stopped working. So I took it apart, and this is what I saw...


it looks like something got really hot, and started burning. The plastic around it is really charred.....





At least it didn't burn my car to the ground

I think mys was beyond repair...

So was mine, but that procedure made it work again for a few weeks, until I could get a whole new switch box.
