for anyone that has the same problem i had, maybe this will help you. the 4.3 in my pickup would start and run, but soon after would start sputtering and would die if it was sitting there out in the driveway warming up in the morning. it would have terrible surging and felt like it wasn't getting any fuel especially when in gear and under load. once the engine warmed up all the way, the problem seemed to go away and it would run at least somewhat better.
the problem ended up being what the mechanic called an idle air sensor or something like that. i also replaced the O2 sensor for good measure and now it runs great. i was looking into possibly having a fuel pump going bad, but turns out it was just the sensor or valve or whatever (sorry im used to old carbureted small blocks that dont have fancy little sensors and crap) so i hope this post can help other people out there that are frustrated with thier trucks
