92 Cheyenne 1/2 ton with coolant leak
My truck started overheating on the way home the other day and when I parked all of my antifreeze was leaking from the bottom left corner of the radiator (driver's side). I immediately thought of the drain plug and it is indeed broken. But, I also noticed a nipple on the same side of the radiator very near the drain plug that looks like it should have a hose attached to it but doesn't. I have never noticed this nipple before so I'm not sure if there should be a hose there or not.
My questions: Should there be a hose attached to that nipple? Could that be a source of the leak also? And, how do I remove the broken radiator drain plug? The thumbscrew part was hanging loose but the "clip" portion that it screws into is broken off and still attached in the radiator. |

I bought a brand new one for 2400$ USA back in 92 The nipple is for a drain hose when draining. Is it leaking at the drain plug? Back then they had good old metal drain plugs. If so if it will not tighten up repace it. They just screw out and into rad tank. Good luck And let us know how it goes.

Re: 92 Cheyenne 1/2 ton with coolant leak
Thanks for the fast response MT. I was pretty sure that the nipple for the drain hose didn't normally have a hose on it but I wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking anything. I replaced the drain plug a few minutes ago (after a few minutes spent getting the broken part of the old one out) and it seems to have fixed the leak. I'll keep my eye on it for the next few days but I think that was it.
And you're right about not being many 92's left on the road anymore. I'm pushing 225,000 miles and always have to fix something here and there but it's still getting me where I need to go.....and it's paid for!! Thanks again. |
