removed the ecu today

I just removed it thanks, this defaintly doesn't cause for 200 dollars worth of labor, but after giving the ecu a quick look over it doesn't look that bad, and i don't smell anything weird, i'll post some pics up later tonight when my dad brings the camera back. But the shop put it on the computer and the said the ecu was bad.

Re: removed the ecu today

Can i get an ecu from another first gen 3kgt. Like a 1991-1993 DOHC Non-Turbo and does it have to be for a manual transmission, because mine is a 5-Spd

Re: removed the ecu today

First off you should have the ecu looked at, it may still be fixable. Send it to me, I have one of the best ecu guys in the business. If I can't fix it there is no charge for looking at it, just pay the shipping costs. I'd say 90% of the time we can fix them. We are set-up to bench test them as well and I have plenty of cars around to check it in.

Yea it needs to be a 91-92 5spd. I believe the number on the ecu starting with E2T must match.

Re: removed the ecu today

why don't you just get a rebuilt one for $250? It has a lifetime warranty.

Re: removed the ecu today

MD190622 is from a 93.

It will work, however it might advance your base timing some.

Jeff Lucious (sp?) has a write up about it on his site. The 91-92 CAS is different than the 93+ setup and it has something to do with latentcy.

Being a basically stock NA, you shouldn't see any ill effects. If you were boosting it might be a different story.

Re: removed the ecu today

While i'm waiting on my new ECU to come in. a fellow VR-4 owner told me to check the PTU ( Power Transmitor Unit ) these are the exact same symptoms i have, injector not spraying, misfiring, lot of stalling, and starting problems. They said it could also the PTU.

Re: removed the ecu today

It could have been and you can test them with a voltmeter but being that your ecu tested bad, it is unlikely that you PTU has also gone bad. However, he is right, they do have similar symptoms.

Re: removed the ecu today

I hope you realize Talons do NOT have the same ECU as Stealths and 3000GT's.

4 cylinder versus 6 cylinder.
