Question Installing alarm/remote start (AutoPage RS-1000) in '98 Regal

I have been working on installing the AutoPage RS-1000 alarm/remote start in my '98 Buick Regal, I have most of the stuff hooked up, I can open the trunk, the car starts remotely, etc, but have run into a few problems.

First of all, I was unable to locate the Neutral Safety Switch wire in my car. I ended up just grounding that connection on the alarm system, but I would rather find the safety switch if possible. I tried looking for a yellow wire going into the transmission as the diagram from here says, but couldn't find it. If someone could give me a more detailed location that would be great. If not, no big deal.

Secondly, I was unable to find the tach wire. I have the alarm programed with voltage checking rather than RPM, but sometimes it needs to crank it twice before it starts so I would rather use RPM checking. I tried looking for a white or purple/white wire along the steering column as the diagrams have said but was unable to find it. Anyone know exactly where it is in my car?

Third, I was wondering if there is any way to have the rear defogger come on when the alarm is started. There is an additional accessory output on the alarm that I haven't connected, anyone know if it's possible to connect this to the rear defogger?

Fourth, currently my head-unit comes on when the car starts. Is there any way I can keep this from happening?

Lastly, I am trying to get the door locks to work properly. Currently all the doors lock when i press the lock button on the RS-1000 remote, but when I press unlock it only disarms the system. If I push it again within 3 seconds it unlocks all doors. I am trying to get it to unlock just the drivers door when pressed the first time. Here's a picture of the directions from Autopage:

As far as I know, the car has the "2 Step Door Unlock Wire Connection for Ground Switched Door Locks". Here's a larger picture of that setup:

I hooked the AutoPage H10/14 Pink Wire up to the Orange/Black wire for the door unlock right before it connects to the computer. I also did the same with the AutoPage H7 Green Wire to the Red/Black door unlock wire. Did I do that much correctly? If not, can someone tell me how I should have set it up? Also, can anyone tell me where I should be connecting the Autopage H7 Blue Wire? Do I need to cut any factory wires?

I hope someone can help with at least some if not all of these problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For tach wire- just use an injector wire- one that is not the common color- in other words each injector has a common colored wire and a different colored wire- use one of the different colored ones...

For radio control- do not power the brown accessory wire- you only need the orange wire for the blower motor

Re: Installing alarm/remote start (AutoPage RS-1000) in '98 Regal

Is there any connection for the tach (or whatever will work the same way) that I could find inside the car, rather than in the engine compartment?

As far as the radio, I'm pretty sure I connected it to orange and not brown, but I could be mistaken...I'll check next time i have those panels off.

Re: Installing alarm/remote start (AutoPage RS-1000) in '98 Regal

Does your Regal have a tachometer? if so you can get the white wire off the back of the instrument cluster-- if not you can get the white wire at the ignition control module- underhood- you have to go underhood for tach hook-up if there is no tachometer

Door locks should be really simple..in DKP driver's kick panel- with negative triggers..red/blk and orange/blk wires

Re: Installing alarm/remote start (AutoPage RS-1000) in '98 Regal

I currently have the H10/14 Pink Wire hooked up to the Orange/Black wire and the H7 Green Wire hooked up to the Red/Black wire. Are those the proper connections, or did I connect the wrong things to the orange/black and red/black wires?

Re: Installing alarm/remote start (AutoPage RS-1000) in '98 Regal

For the neutral safety switch, the yellow wire at the transmission will have battery voltage during a normal start/crank situation. Hopefully the Autopage only checks that wire just prior to starting, and not during the remote start process. The yellow wires goes from the "Crank Relay" in the underhood accessory wiring junction box through the neutral safety switch to the starter motor. It is purple from the safety switch to the starter. You won't want to tap into the purple wire though as it will be at ground potential even if the transmission is not in neutral or part.

You could tap into the CMP sensor signal at the PCM, black wire in location 7 at the PCM connector.

For the rear window defogger, the factory switch activation is likely a momentary ground signal. Once you confirm that, you should be able to configure an extra channel on the Autopage to provide a similar momentary ground to that wire which will trigger the rear window defogger timer module and relay.

For the priority door unlock, your car already has priority unlock, so you shouldn't need to add the extra wire. You should be able to get by with connecting the pink wire from the Autopage to the the light green wire at the Body Control module or priority unlock relay. The blue wire from the Autopage would connect to the tan wire at the Body Control Module or one of the locks, which it sounds like you've already connected. Finally, the green wire from the Autopage is probably already connected to the gray wire of the Body Control Module (or one of the locks).

All '97-'04 Buick Regals have a tachometer.

Do you have access to a Regal factory service manual? I see some discrepancies in the generic diagrams posted. For one there are no power door lock relays (OEM Door Lock Relay)?. All switch, RKE and BCM module controlled. I'd hate to see you blow your BCM module.

Anyways, hard to tell by your diagrams posted. Which connector were you looking at? There are two to the autotransaxle. The 20/25 way umbilical connector and the one to the transmission range switch aka neutral/park/PRND321 switch. The range switch is located on the top of the transaxle, rear part. There should be a yellow wire at the range switch connector from the ignition control circuits. The purple wire output is to the crank relay and starter solenoid "S" terminal at the starter.

If you desire to have an inside cabin hookup for the tach signal wire then the best thing to do is make the connection at the electrical connectors to the IP Cluster. But that will require removing the dash plastic bezel and accessing the IP Cluster (rear). The wiring harnesses you see at the steering column are for the ignition switch and multifunction switches only. Also, you can make the connection at the ignition control module wiring harness which is clearly visible or one of the PCM module 80 pin connectors but that will require opening up the airbox in the engine compartment since the PCM module is located in that assembly.
