Ford Escort MK1 Roger Clark RAC Narton 1/24 Resin

Hello guys again. Even though I am starting modelling rally cars (plastic cars), due to the fact that they are discontinuing a lot of rally models that I I like, I started collecting models kits 1/24. I hope one day I will be able to assemble all of them. (I think this story is familiar to a lot of you, je je).

Therefore, the other day I just bought on internet the Ford Escort MK1 1/24 from Narton, the car Roger Clark won the RAC with.

The thing is that once I have received the kit, the details compared to other resin kits I bought are poor. Consequently, I do not know if I should return the kit or keep it until I know more of modelism (maybe 7 or 8 years) and then try to fix all the errors so that I can get a decent result.

Consequently, here you can find pictures of the kit so you can tell me what you think of the kit and if it is possible and worth it to work hard on the kit to get a nice finished model or I had better return the kit and get a part of my money (as I will lose the postage money to get it and to send it back).
(One point is that as far as I am concerned this model is not in 1/24 available on another maker). I paid 80 euros for the kit plus postage.

1) Body's picture:

2) Front part, maybe there is little detail?

3) Rear part, the tail lights are included on the body and made of resin. I do not know if I should paint them or maybe I should cut them and build another ones with transparent plastic. What do you think? Is it easy to do this?

4) On the underbody the exhaust pipes and the suspension components are included as well.

5) On the same piece but on the upper part, you have the interior. It is very simple as you can see. (dreaming about Tamiya ones)

6) As I said before, on the underbody are included the suspension components. Getting to the point, please take a look at the front shock absorber components. What should I do? Should I cut these 2 pieces and build a new ones (scrath built) or buy them like ones similar to the ones included on Tamiya kits?

7) Here you have a general view of all the pieces:

8) The dash board is not so bad. I think the only thing I should do is to better redefine the upper air exits right? (please take a look at second picture).

9) The wheels are not so bad. The only think I miss is the spare tire. However, as the it must have been stashed inside the trunk, I guess it does not matter. I would try to take a look at reference pictures.

10)The interiors components, are so so comparing with the Tamiya ones:

11) steering wheel and fire extinguishers:

12) Brakes, I guess with experience I should be able to detail them without any problem:

13) Photoetched parts. I miss more components to detail the front part of the car, what do you think?

14) Decals. Happy with them.

So what do you think, should I keep the kit for the future of return it? Do you know some books that could help me to learn how to improve the detail on this kit and built scratch-built components?

If you want to make specific comments, you can write down the number of the specific piece and beside your comments.

Thank so much for all your help.

Felix

dude, there is alot of work with that kit, however i think you should keep it, mk1 escort is a legend and as you know you wont find that again, i would rather spend the time fixing the problems than have no escort at all.

the problem i have seen is not that major, with a little patience it could become an awesome kit! good luck buddie, keep it.

Re: Ford Escort MK1 Roger Clark RAC Narton 1/24 Resin

Thanks for posting the pictures, I have always wondered about how good this kit is. My main concerns have always been the windscreen area, the shape just looks wrong in all photo's I have seen, but this detail is unclear from your shots. Any possibility of a couple of oblique views of the windscreen / roof join from both sides?

The suspension and brakes look very disappointing, you can scratch build and remedy these issues, but a fair amount of work is involved.

As is pointed out above no one else makes this car in this scale, and I think they are pretty much sold out everywhere. If you do not wish to build treat it as an investment that you will pass on in the future.

Hopefully some other boutique manufacturer produces this model in this scale sooner or later. I do not see any of the big manufacturers ever making a kit of the iconic Mk1 rally or street.

A bit messy kit. You'll have a lot of work to do in order to make it look decent.
However as already pointed out, no alternatives ATM.

Thanks for the review, looking at these parts, they appear like a "first try" of resincasting, and for 80 Euros ?!?!?!

I agree with jano11.

Body shape doesnīt look bad, but it is not crisp, looking at the panel lines and the surface will need some sanding.

Shock absorbers are a joke, leave them away. Dashboard top needs sanding, too.

Iīd use brakes from another kit / scrap box, before I work on these.

Well, I donīt dare to say "have fun building the kit", but please think about wearing a mask when sanding resin.

Re: Ford Escort MK1 Roger Clark RAC Narton 1/24 Resin

Thank you so much for your help. As I am starting to build models and I do not have experience at all, I decided to return the kit as a lot of work was going to be involved and I have waiting in resin a Audi Quattro Sport, Lancia S4, Lancia Fulvia and Renault 5 MaxiTurbo.

On the other hands, regarding the extra shots, when I saw the post I had already sent the item back, so I am sorry about that mate.

However, when I reviewed this item, I would dare to say that you are right and the proportions are wrong, especially comparing this kit with others in 1/43.

Finally, I have and extra shots that might help you to clarify this issue.

Thank you so much for all your help and hopefully I will post my first finished kit soon.

Take care.

I don't know if it's the angle you took the photo, but still that thing looks asymmetrical to me.
