1996 C1500 transmission interchange

Does anyone know what the differences are in the 4L60E transmission from a 1998 or 1997 to a 1996? I have a 1996 C1500, auto extended cab and im being told that only a 1996 will work but they are all the same, 4L60E.

I thought just 95 was alone, with a 96 you should be able to replace with 96-98 at least, about the only changes were a removable bellhousing, deeper oilpan in 98 and a solenoid design change so that the solenoids weren't installed incorrectly
