Lowering car, need some help
So not only am I lowering my car but I am replacing all of the stock rubber bushings with polyurethane ones. My question is, I started to assemble the rear struts/springs and when I go to tighten the top strut bolt, it tightens so far but there is a good inch or so of play between the top of the spring and the metal mount. Do I keep it like this while putting it back in the car and it will 'come together' with the car is dropped to the ground? Or am I missing something here? Everything is assembled correctly, I triple checked.

Lowering springs are alot shorter than standard springs, so yea, sometimes it takes the weight of the car to make the springs completely seat.

Yea I figured that out not too long ago lol. After thinking about it a little more, it made sense that even with the car in the air, if I tried to put the strut/spring assembly in it should seat properly when I push the strut upwards to get it on the strut pin on the knuckle....So that's what I did and it seated perfectly.
Anyway, I finally got the driver side rear completely done. All new poly bushings and new KYB GR2 w/ Eibach Pro Kit. The passenger side shouldn't be as bad with the bushings because I'm more experienced now and know what to expect. I was thinking about doing a write-up on replacing the suspension bushings and taking a lot of pics. If I find some extra time I'll definitely do it because it seriously is a PAIN in the ass. I'm not using a press, or a propane torch. I'm using oxygen and acetylene to burn those bastards to a complete crisp. Makes it MUCH easier than a propane torch. |
