noise in the back

Ive got a 2002 sunfire ,,when im driving I can hear some kind of a knocking in the rear of the car,I thought it was the muffler hitting the frame but eliminated that ,,checked the bearing its on the drivers side,,seems like it is from the strut,,but the strut seems to be good, I push down on the corner of the car i can hear it ,,a very lite knock or clicking,,is it a strut or a strut mount, any ideas ,,thank you

Re: noise in the back

these cars are notorious for going through strut mounts. I've replaced mine 3 times in the 30k I owned my cavalier and once in my sunfire already. They start clunking when you go over any road bump or imperfection in the road.

Re: noise in the back

A couple of cheap possibilities...

1) Check your gas cap - mine rattles, esp. when cold. No matter how well you tighten the cap, it can still rattle because the cap is actually made of three or four pieces of plastic. Over time the gasket between the pieces wears out and you can make it rattle just by touching it.

2) You have a loose object banging around in the spare tire compartment of your trunk.

Re: noise in the back

I had the same issue with the rattling noise. I thought it was something were my spare tires sits moving around, it took me two years to figure out it was my struts that needed to be replaced. It was really easy going over bumps and all just the noise. Got them replace and that fixed the problem.
