Acceleration problem

I have a renault clio dynamique 16v Reg 04 , and have only had it for six months. This morning I started the car and two warning lights stayed on. The preheating/electronic light and exhuast gas monitor warning light. Everything seemed fine until I got onto the dual carriageway and noticed that my car found it hard to accelerate. Working through the gears the car managed to get to 60mph in 5th gear .
yesterday with all the heavy rain I did drive through a pool of water across the road , this wasn't deep but may have something to do with the problem . Please can you give me some advice as i cannot really afford to take it a garage.

Re: Acceleration problem

hello mate,

right, ive actually has both of these problems.

The exhuast gas monitor warning light comes on due to excess fumes - which is causing your acceleration problem.. because your car thinks that your throwing out to many fumes, the ECU knocks the engine down to working on 3 cylinders instead of 4, to try and reduce fumes.. hence being slow....

what i did was let you fuel go right down, then put maybe £10 of super unleaded petrol in.. because its a better fuel it should slow down your emissions and the light should go off.. then carry on using the regular unleaded in. and maybe add some redex fuel system cleaner.

Right... now the biggy!! electrical fault light - i had this problem for months!! and was reluctant to take it to a garage. (mostly because i had no money)

does you car idle badly.. e.g: normal idle of around 900rpm, then the light comes on then it drops to around 500rpm, back to 900rpm and so forth...?

is it intermittent? or does it constantly stay on?

i tryed loads of things to fix this - searched the internet for days on end!! and everyone had different solutions to this problem...

e.g:

idle control valve sticking
lambda sensor
etc..

but what i done was, brought a universal diagnostic reader from ebay for £25 (see link) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CAN-Bus-OBDII-...1%7C240%3A1318

and rigged it up, and it found 2 faults, i cleared them and it hasn't come on since (2 months ago)

also my friend had the same problem, i put the code reader on his, it found no faults.. so he lived with it for a while, but with the cold weather lately his car had problems starting, due to the battery, he brought a new battery, fitted it, and the light doesnt come on anymore.. electrical fault = dead battery.

hope all this helps..

good luck!!

let me know how you get on!!
