Odometer mileage

I had my instrument cluster replaced by the dealer on my 03' Silverado LT Z71. I checked my odometer reading and I think that they added 4K miles on it. Is this possible? How would I approach them about this?

I had a problem with a cluster on the 96 impala...there is paper work that must be filled out to the state concerning any replacement or changing of this mileage.

when you submitted your vehicle mileage should have been documented...compare that to the current mileage..

I also believe that the computer will store mileage as well ...so by checking the logged mileage to displayed may clear this..

On full size trucks the mileage is ONLY kept in the cluster. It is NOT kept in the PCM.

The kid who wrote milage down wrote a 7 instead of a 1. I have to go back and have a new cluster put in, they can't reprogram the one they just put in. Pain in my arse. The milage is not stored on the vehicle computer either. I'll always remember to write my milage down now, before bringing it anywhere.

I checked into that mileage storage...in other computer controls ,, on this vehicle , and yes it is true no other place... but on other vehicles it is stored in many places to reveal any tampering...

but I do believe your odometer can be altered to show the correct mileage...if you have an odometer that is changed this is bad when selling the vehicle...

to change the mileage the odometer is connected to a computer and with the correct software you simply dial in the correct amount...

I believe that link I posted lists where ALL GM vehicles mileage is kept. Some in BCM and some in IPC, instrument panel cluster, but they all are listed. In the full size trucks and that includes the new body style mileage is only kept in the cluster. Makes me wonder with all the ones sold on E-bay and it takes all of 15 minutes to change them

And yes your cluster can be reprogrammed. Any speedo repair shop can do it. You can get a cluster from E-bay and they will programme it with your miles and send it to you. They do not need your truck to do this.

Have a good one,

Don

Re: Odometer mileage

thanks for that additional info.. If I had a problem with this I would most likely get this software and do it myself...
