98 No reverse after bad rain storm.
I have a 98 4X4 EXT 5.7L. I have been trying to locate a leak that is getting water in my blower motor. Today, after a significant rain storm I went to the store and heard a bang like a bad shift. It did it a few times on the way home. When I tried to backup in my driveway it worldn't move. Selected reverse, the engine rev'd alittle and nothing. Forward seemed ok but no reverse. I removed the blower and found the bottom full of water.
This issue seems electrical with the tranny. 104,000 miles and this truck has been perfect. Not a problem. Is there a control box/wiring in the area around the blower that may getting affected?

Re: 98 No reverse after bad rain storm.
Transmission has to come out, broken sunshell and this is a common problem with the 700R4/4L60Es.The aftermarket hardened sunshells do break and I know one transmission shop that has seen this.

Don't like that answer. I Googled it, I hate it more. I wasn't doing anything rough when it happened. Can it be something else? (this is the denial part) Pete

Re: 98 No reverse after bad rain storm.
Check the condition of the fluid also,if it is pink, your good.It is inside the transmission, with the broken sunshell and can be fixed without a rebuild if you are lucky.I do repairs on these with broken sunshells and never had one come back yet.
