cost of head gasket replacement 94 ga

I just had the head gasket replaced at a garage on a 94 grand am v6,I got a bill of $1700,did I get ripped off?

For LIM dealership will charge you 6 hrs, ok. now lets give them 3 more hrs max for both heads that is 9 hrs. for new cars they charge average 140 per hour, for cars older than 2000 it is 70 per hour so lets round it up to $700 for labor only. And parts:gaskets, new engine oil, coolant about $300 max. Unless they had to cut your heads etc but even then I think that is too much. Car is almost 15 years old, so figure it out

Welcome to AF steelers9 !

They can only charge you so much time, it doesnt matter how old your car is. The head gaskets are a 14-16 hr job by the Mitchell Int. DB time chart.
So 16hrs x $80/hr is $1280, plus tax and other odds and ends, so it sounds about rght for your location.
