2000 GTP Shook PLEASE HELP. NEED ANSWERS SOON

I was pulling out onto a road and got into the pedal a little lol spinning the tires after i let out of it the car started shaking bad and the check engine light came on. when i stopped at the stop light it started doing it bad so i shut the car off then started it back up which it would barely start as i went farther down the road about 2 or 3 miles the car was fine. what would cause this to happen. PLEASE HELP ME ON THIS

is the shake a miss fire?

When was the last full tune up?

If the SES light came on, take it to autozone and have it scanned.

Do you have any MODs? For your sake, I hope your KR is within spec?

It could be many things. First thing you need to do is get it scanned and post the results. It would also help to let us know how many miles on the car, as well as maintenance history (last tune up, fuel filter, etc...).

Re: 2000 GTP Shook PLEASE HELP. NEED ANSWERS SOON

the car has 108,852 miles on it it is a 2000 GTP Olympic Edition. jus recently bought it but it does have mods done to it such as a chip (not sure what kind), cold air intake, high performance fuel pump, and SLP pulley with SLP loudmouth exhaust. im not sure when the last tune up was like i said jus bought it about 5 months ago and this has never happened it has been a perfectly good running car no problems what so ever. i do change the oil regularly and always make sure it has all the fluids it needs since ive had it it has been very well maintained by me not sure bout how the owner before took care of it tho. And no i do not run 91 octane in it i was not told to by the dealership i bought it from is that what should be in it, if so what should i do about this?

yes, it says right in your owners manual to never run lower than 91 Octane. by running anything lower you are causing high KR (Knock retard) counts, especially with the mods that this car has. that may be the shaking you are feeling. this over time can cause serious internal damage to your motor.

my first suggestion to you is fill up with 91 Octane fuel and see if your car does it again...if not problem solved, if it still does it...then looks like you got more problems.

Re: 2000 GTP Shook PLEASE HELP. NEED ANSWERS SOON

The owners manual states that 91 octane is required, not recommened in GTP's. This is for a bone stock model. Once you add any kind of mods, you're just asking to blow it up running anything less. Since you're not sure of the mod history on this car, the first thing I would do is measure the diameter of your supercharger pulley. If it is 3.4" or less (and from your list of other mods I'm betting it is) you should never run less than 91 octane. If you can't afford to run premium fuel, you'd be better off selling this car before you grenade the engine. Next, you should pull a spark plug and look at it's condition as well as get the numbers off of it and post here. Many modded GTP's run colder heat range plugs, or the owner switches to non platinum/iridium plugs that won't last as long but are cheaper to purchase. Let us know what you find.

As suggested get it scanned and post the diagnostic trouble codes.

Re: 2000 GTP Shook PLEASE HELP. NEED ANSWERS SOON

I see a couple of possibilities.

One possibility is the "high performance fuel pump" is on its last legs. I don't know much about what aftermarket options are out there but I'd seriously question whether that part has been durability tested. If it is a GM-OEM part, its time to change it anyway.

You could also have a coil pack going flaky. They can go frustratingly intermittent before dying.

I just posted in another thread if you can catch your car doing odd things at idle, open the hood and unplug one injector at a time. You are disabling one cylinder at a time. If you just disabled a good cylinder the car will run worse and probably stall. If you just disabled the problem cylinder there will be no change. If they all test good or you can't find a bad one, then it is a system problem common to all cylinders and unrelated to injectors or coil packs/wires/plugs.

I doo agree with the suggestion to cruise by AutoZone and have them download the fault codes. This makes it so much easier.

Note that GM has no PCM diagnostics directly for bad/poor/too high/too low/NOK fuel pressure as of my best information, starting with the original TBI setups and all the way forward to the newest vehicles.
