Ferrari Daytona Comp. #39 LM '73

Time to start a new project, actually a WIP thread. I've been building this for a couple of months now. This time it is a full detail Daytona Competizione using HRM transkit, S27 Decals, S27 PE for Daytona Spyder and Fujimi kit. When finished the model should look like this:

Here is a photo of S27 decals and HRM transkit body before starting:

I started by modifying the body to match my references. For this particular car this transkit is actually quite incorrect. But it is not HRM's fault, all comp Daytonas were different. Modifications that were made are fuel filler recesses, reshaping of rear wheelarches and reshaping of air intakes at the front panel. Picture is after the first primer layer, not the final stage.

Interior is also mostly finished. Rollbar was made from solder and styrene tubes. I also sanded doorpanels flat, reshaped the seats padding and added various detail switches from S27 PE set. Seatbelts are MFH + some extra PE parts from various kits.

Next ones are from yesterday. I decided to add some detail to the chassis. Shocks are scratchbuilt using kit shocks, spring, stainless steel rod and styrene rod. Brake lines were done using thin electric wire and some tube+al-plate for the fittings.

Some questions:
1. Does anybody know if they used handbrake on these cars?
2. Regulations allowed for a transmission oil coolers, were they used?

Interior ready! Now that is fast building.

Very nice project.
Is the HRM body shell better than the Italeri kit?

Will you build it with a detailed engine? From the pictures I can't decide if the hood on the HRM transkit is removable or not.

I'll follow this build closely, it will sure provide plenty of details for a possible future Daytona Competizione project.

Body shell is quite obviously crafted using Fujimi kit as a base. In my opinion it (Fujimi) is the most accurate Daytona 1/24 body. Italeri is a bit tall and there is something strange in the sidewindow area. HRM body is also one piece, so that is an obvious advantage. Sadly these are now OOP.

Yes, hood is removable and i'm planning a full detail build.

Re: Ferrari Daytona Comp. #39 LM '73

Looks very nice. I am thinking about a reissue of the old Scale Designs Daytona resin kit, but with engine detail. I sold hundreds of my Daytona kits. If it is reissued it will have Cartograf printed Scale Designs Daytona Lemans 1972 FERAUD#36 and NART #74 along with NART #37 Lemans 1973 two tone decals. If you need decals buy the Studio 27 sets as I am saving my sets for the reissued kit.

Best,

Re: Ferrari Daytona Comp. #39 LM '73

A bit of progress. Engine is on its place. I added some oil lines and made new solder headers.

Engine from below:

Chassis is also completed. I made similar shocks to the rear as on the front suspension.

Fujimi didn't make a dry sump oil tank in their kit so it had to be scratchbuilt

Radiator is Fujimi plastic + S27 etched face plates

Terrific, Niko

The sump looks great! What fittings did you use?

What a great build. There will be alot to learn from this one.

Was the dash already textured or did you add it?

I used fittings modified from these hexbolts. Instead of cutting bolt heads off, i left the line between two bolts... I hope you understand what i mean.

Dash is standard Fujimi kit part(s). I brushpainted it with vallejo acrylic (gloss black). After painting, i textured the wet paint it dabbing with a stiff brush.

Re: Ferrari Daytona Comp. #39 LM '73

Body is now painted. I used BMF as masking material, but still got some problems. Most of the decal work is also done, trunk decal will have to wait for the windows, and bonnet isn't done yet.

Re: Ferrari Daytona Comp. #39 LM '73

Looks great. I also have the Studio 27 sheet. I think it was printed by Cartograf.

My old Scale Designs sheet of this car will crack now since they are Microscale. I didnt start using Cartograf until 2000.
