Jay Leno to stay at NBC.

Continuing the discussion from a few months back:http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=901819.
Looks like Hay Leno has signed an agreement to stay with NBC after he gives up reins to his late night talk show to Conan O'Brien next May. He will move to a 5 day a week one hour show which is similar to the one he has now. This could be a good programming move for struggling NBC, and keeps a high recognition name with the network. Do you think this is a good move, and do you think it will work?

Conan's the man

I got to see Conan last summer, Tracy Morgan was promoting 30 Rock. It was pretty damn good. Definitely liked Colbert Report and Daily Show better. (It's good to live by NYC)

Conan is too simple for me. He does a lot of silly slap-stick "comedy".
Why did Jay want to leave in the first place?

I suspect Leno and NBC saw Johnny Carson stay on so long that the Tonight Show lost touch with younger viewers. NBC does not want Leno to become an irrelevant late-night fossil like Carson was.

This follows a pattern where the Tonight Show has regularly replaced older hosts with younger ones.

Just ask some senior citizens who Jack Parr was. You will see that host 'retirement' is nothing new.

Yeah, Jack Parr. I still have no real idea on who he was simply cuz i've never heard that name until my friend's dad and I were talking about tv shows. He kinda threw that "wow you're so young" generation gap line a lot after that.

Frankly, the formula and much of the 'flavor' of late night TV talk shows for 50-odd years (Carson, Leno, Letterman, Conan, Kimmel, Arsineo etc) is due to Jack Parr's efforts.

UPDATE:
Conan's last day at his 12:35 am time slot will be February 20, 2009. Fallon will start his show in that time slot March 2. Conan will resume in Jay Leno's time slot June 1st.
