Ignition Key Problem

I have an '06 Cobalt with AT. The Key will not come out of the cylinder lock. There is another post in this forum with the identical title and it has helped me to diagnose the problem. HOWEVER, because I am too cheap to pay a dealer $600 to replace the Shifter Assy and the Cylinder Lock Assy, I am looking for instructions that will guide me through the replacement of these parts. I have already save $85 by mail ordering genuine GM parts. (There is nothing I cannot fix and I am always challenged by someone who tries to discourage me.) Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thank you in advance for your kind replies,
S.D.

Re: Ignition Key Problem

Go to http://www.alldata.com/ buy a years subscription. They have a lot of information. It costs about $25.00 for first vehicle and less for second vehicle.
It tells you about problems and call backs.
Make sure you print off electrical diagrams before letting it expire.

Re: Ignition Key Problem

Sounds like you need to adjust the shift cable adjustment feature-located on top of tranny- slip the cable out of it's holders and adjust the retainer locking sleeve to expose cable retainer lock- adjust it so the key can be removed when car is in Park...
