vats system problem

i have a 1988 corvette with a starting problem that sometimes the vat system goes off for no reason. if i open the doors in a certain way sometimes it will reset and will start but other times i have to wait a day or even a few before it will start. the code always comes up for the vats system. what i was wondering is if anyone knows if there is a way i can bypass it till i get back to the states so i can get it fixed right ?

Re: vats system problem

If you measure the resistance across the pellet in the key you should get one of the following values. Then buy the same value resistor- or combo of them- and insert across the vehicle side of the two white wire inside the orange sheath- that come down the steering column from your ignition switch. This will permanently bypass the troublesome VATS

Vats will reset after 8 or 10 minutes, if it is what is activated, and it not allowing the car to turn over.

Check for pocket lint or other dirt on the key. It can change the resistance value, especially if you toss in some grubby finger jam with poke chop grease and Dorito's cheesy jam on it.

Re: vats system problem

Any shop that installs remotes starters will most likely have hundreds of these resistors hanging around. They used to come with every remote starter sold.
