Blower problem
My 2001 Chevy Express Van (with Explorer conversion) has started blowing the 20 Amp HVAC fuse. I have also noticed that the selector switch on the HVAC control panel (Def, vent, floor) does not seem to be working quite right. I'm can not get the air to be directed to the floor, and when set on defrost, only a small amount of air will go to the windshield. Most of the air comes out of the upper vents.
I did a QUICK check of the wiring from the fuse block to the HVAC control, and did not find any problems. I think that I have a short to ground somewhere.... Can anybody offer any pointers? Is there an actuator that is hung up and blowing the fuse? Thank you in advanced for any help. Dan

Check your amp draw direct at/on the blower motor.
Or see if it will pop a 20 amp fused jumper wire. On the air flow always check for good engine vacuum from engine threw vacuum ball and plastic lines and on to heater controls. A lot of times the plastic lines break or come unplugged.

I checked the current draw at the blower motor and this is what I found.
Engine off blower on high: 4 Amps. Left the blower on while I checked the air tubes on the inside of the van. Checked 10-15 minutes later and saw 9 Amps. Started van and Blew 15 Amp fuse in my Fluke... Replaced fuse in Fluke, started van again and was getting an intial reading of 17 Amps then quickly fell to 11 Amps. I can see that something is not right here. Resistor module? Motor?? I did find a loose hose on my vacuum ball, so that solved that problem!!!

Strange on vacuum fixing the problem.
If it acts up any more check the amps it takes to start the blower motor. Some times they have a dead or shorted spot and they draw a lot of amps to start them up. Good luck
