5 Axis CNC Mill systems

Just curious if anyone knows of any 5 axis desktop CNC systems that may be available.

Im just curious right now whats available, it'll be quite awhile before I get anything. I emailed Sherline about the rotary axis tables they have, and their CNC system is only set up 4 axis, not 5.

Re: 5 Axis CNC Mill systems

Why would you need 5 axis, I mean, which parts do you want to make?

Perhaps there are other solutions ...

Personally, I have a Sherline 3 axis CNC system with rotary table on the 4th axis, and that works perfect.

Re: 5 Axis CNC Mill systems

Crap, I thought I was in the machining forum when I posted this.

As for why, just to have the ability to do pretty much anything. I run a full size 5 axis system at work, and just from watching it go through its programs, I can see how having a 5 axis system gives you the ability to run pretty much anything.

It might not be needed all the time, but it would be nice to have the ability if its needed for something.

Re: 5 Axis CNC Mill systems

I expect that you could probably find (or build) a desktop 5 axis system. The question is whether it is worth the extra X thousand dollars and effort- or if a 4 axis system would be capable enough for the money and off the shelf availability.

Re: 5 Axis CNC Mill systems

Yea, I wouldnt be surprised if it meant a definite increase in price.

I have also considered building my own. The company I work for manufactures a half a dozen different types of CNC machines (including the machine that I run), so Im sure I could get help at work w/ building one if I wanted to, but I thought I'd see if there were any machines already available.

And thanks for moving this to the appropriate forum.
