Welcome to AF

Is it the auto 4W or regular?
Any shift button lights on or blinking or come on for bulb check.
Any check engine or transfer case lights on?
Have you checked the 4W fuse?
Does backing up or placing transmission in neutral help any?

Re: S 10 (2003) 4 wd pickup

You are welcome.
Glad you got it to shift.
Could have been in a bind from driving on dry payment in 4W.
Do not use 4W on dry payment.
And use auto mode most of the time for slick higway driving.

Make sure your tires are a matched set.

If it gives any more problems get it on a transfer case scanner and test it out and check for codes.

The Auto 4W needs serviced ever so often with the new blue GM transfer case fluid.
Good luck

You will need to get it on a transfer case capable scanner and get codes and see what is going on.
Post back any codes.

Re: S 10 (2003) 4 wd pickup

OK,here is what I have done,,,Read, read and read some more,,Lot's of great info on this site. Now to the issue.
Since I didn't know where to start I took the Battery out, removed the battery base plate, looked at the Vacuum actuator and it was Sucked in with engine off. Is this normal? I disconnected the cable from Vacuum actuator and it stayed sucked in. Used jumper cables started the truck and BINGO ,,,I could switch between 2 HI to 4 HI. of course 4 Lo NO GO. 4 LO is not an issue for me right now as long as I can go from 4 wd to 2 wd.
Do you think Vacuum actuator is my problem?
Thanks

You need to get it on a transfer case scanner and read codes and do the shift test in the scanner.

Post back any codes.
