Fuel filler hose not letting me fill up

I had my gas tank out for several months while I replaced all the rusted out brake and fuel lines. When I went to reinstall it, I couldn't remember which way the rubber fuel filler hose was oriented.

So I couldn't fill the tank up without the fuel pump shutting off, even filling it as slow as possible. I realized that the hose was slightly kinked at the tank end. I reversed it, and it went together much better. Just a very subtle flattening at the filler end from the previous kink. Tried to fill it up and the damn thing still doesn't work! Should there be any vertical bends in the filler hose or should they all be in a horizontal plane? That's the only thing I can think of.

I'm pretty sure the vent hose isn't kinked or crushed either. Weird thing is I can fill it up on my steep driveway if I back up it so the fuel tank is downhill from the fuel filler.

Anyone have a picture of an installed filler hose?

Maybe something has taken up residence inside the vent hose while it was disconnected. Like a mud wasp. Maybe check that. Good luck.

Re: Fuel filler hose not letting me fill up

Don't think the vent is blocked, as I capped the end of the hose and all other tank inlets while it was out. I'll try blowing through it to confirm as soon as I get a chance.

I snapped a few pics, not the greatest, but maybe someone can compare to theirs and spot any differences. You can see just a slight kink coming off the filler tube (looks worse in the picture than it really is).

I will have to check mine, but I by looking at the pics, I am sure the bends are not correct. But I don't see how that would matter. I will check mine when it's light out.

Took a look at mine, and you need to to twist yours about 30-40 degrees counterclockwise so that the bend in the middle is the low spot in the middle. I looked at mind and looked at the FSM and they both have the middle bend at 6 oclock. I don't know if that is going to solve your problem, but I would start there. If you need, I can take a pic or scan the FSM
