Automotive main divisions

What I think we need are forums for entire major manufacturers. Like one for all of General Motors, one for all of Ford Motor Company, one for all of Chrysler Corporation, and one or more for imports.

Many vehicles from a manufacturer share identical or nearly identical parts, and identical or nearly identical construction methods. And therefore share similar problems typical to many different vehicles.

I have a question about my GM fuel sending unit. Nearly all GM vehicles use an adjusted version of the same part. I currently have two options. (1) Posting it in the Unspecified Pontiac forum and losing potential repsonses from Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Buick, Cadillac, and GMC. Or (2) posting in the general technical forum, and getting advice that is diluted from people familiar with Fords, etc.

Many people are more familiar and have expertise with one manufacturer over others. I think there should be forums to reflect this. I believe this would make the site very much more efficient for both helpers and those seeking help. I believe this would also make the website itself run more efficiently, because there would be fewer repeat posts, and less bandwidth would be used up because many people would no longer need to dig through forums on every similar vehicle in the hopes of finding answers to their vehicle questions.

The vehicle specific forums should stay intact though, since there are still issues specific to each vehicle. For example, removing the radio from a Chevrolet Celebrity is 10 times more difficult than removing the radio in a Pontiac 6000, even though the cars are about 90% identical otherwise.
