Problem with 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

I own a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. The front power outlet has not worked since the day I bought it.

I have brought it back to the Ford Dealer 2 times to be fixed but the Dealer merely changes the fuse which immediately blows the next time I plug in a simple cell phone charger.

The Ford Dealer's technician diagnosed the problem to only require the change of fuse before he even checked the car. The Dealer has indicated that "changing fuses" is not covered under the Ford warranty and has indicated that I should be prepared to change the fuse which position ignores the fact that the fuse blows within seconds of my plugging into the standard cell phone charger.

The inability to use the front power outlet is annoying but I fear that it may be a symptom of a more significant electrical problem.

My questions are:

1. Is anyone familiar with this problem occurring before in a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid?

2. What advice can you give me to have Ford address my concerns?

Thanks.

Re: Problem with 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

As a ford employee I will tell you the dealer has to fix your problem you can threaten to call Dearborn on them if they don't fix it right. With that said all dealer are worried of being shut down these days so they dont want any probems on them. Or you have the right to take it to any dealer you want for repair.

Re: Problem with 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

I'm sorry to read about your ongoing issue. I've been monitoring various webpages on behalf of Ford and I haven't seen anything about an outlet problem. I also checked in our system and I didn't see anything that applies to this.

I'd recommend that you contact the dealership's Service Manager. If they are unable to diagnose the issue, they do have access to Ford support. Finally, if your issue is not resolved to your satisfaction, please contact the Ford Customer Relations Center. Be prepared with your invoices and any other details. before we get into a hybrid discussion about a plug in charger for a damn cell phone..perhaps its the charger malfunction? Check with your cell phone company.
charge it at home.

Re: Problem with 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Many of the newer phone chargers have this issue. They simply pull to much amperage for what the vehicle is designed for, mostly due to the increasing complexity of todays phones. Motorola is one of the worst Ive seen, but I do see it quite regularly. One possible "fix", even though it isnt a "certified" Ford solution is to put a higher amperage fuse in the CJB. By the way, this is the same fuse that sends power to the data link connector for diagnosing the vehicle, so any Ford tech knows what a hassle this can be!!!
