2002 Ford Explorer?

Okay so I am currently looking at a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT 4X4. It has all the bells and whistles, such as sunroof, running boards, leather, etc. The best part? Its only 4k! It does have 101k miles, however, and it needs new rear brakes and I guess the gas gauge is screwy...1 minute it'll be full, the next minute itll be empty. So my question is, for only 4k, I am really considering this car, however, I've read the trans are questionable and so are the gas gauges. Should I do it? Also, how much would it be to get new rear brakes and the gas gauge fixed? Thanks!
