Re: town car 99 suddenly looses accelaration
Had a similar situation with my 98 tc, was loosing power and dying when coming to a stop. But would start back up and run but with lose of power. Put in some fuel injector fluid ran it for about 75 miles at high speed. Was still acting the same way at the end of that trip. Left it overnight next morning ran great. Not a problem since.

Re: town car 99 suddenly looses accelaration
u mean it is all about adding some injector cleaning fluid?
please notice that my engine does not die. instead it does not response to the accelerator peddle. |

It sounds like the engine is running too lean at higher RPMs. Could be a number of things. Fuel pump could be starting to go bad (bad fuel pressure), dirty injectors, dirty fuel filter. It could has be a bad coil pack. Had a similar problem with my old Lincoln and it turned out one of the coil packs were cracked.

Re: town car 99 suddenly looses accelaration
IMAD,
I have a 1999 Lincoln Town Car that suddenly looses all of its acceleration, speed drops to 35 miles per hour, the engine does not stop, when I pull over and start driving again sometimes it works. I ran an engine diagnostic and it showed three failing coil pacs and bad catalytic converters. Replacing the coil pacs and adding injector fluid and de-carbonizing the engine did not solve the problem. Further diagnostics determined the left catalytic converter to be clogged and the right catalytic converter was going bad. You can also test the catalytic converters by pressing the gas peddle to race the engine while idling. You have bad catalytic converters if you hear a rattle, or have very little pressure coming out of your exhaust pipe or they get very hot. |
