Need Help!

To start off, i dont know squat about cars so go easy on me guys.

I have a Nissan altima and lately the aceleration seems to get jammed.
my rpms get stuck and it seems its harder for the engine to change gears and i have to press down on the gas a lot more to make it go and when i take my foot of the gas it doesnt go at all and i have to press down on the gas quite a bit to jump it into drive. Any ideas on whats wrong?

I have limited resources so if its something i can do myself it would be of great help

I will assume this is an automatic transmission, right?

My first thought is the transmission may be slipping. Check the transmission fluid level and condition. Low fluid may cause problems like what you describe.

Your owners manual will tell you how to check the fluid level if you do not know how. If necessary, take it to a full-service gas station and ask the attendant to do it for you.
Also take a look at the fluid condition. Wipe the dipstick on a clean white paper towel. If the fluid is red/pink, then it's okay. If it's brown/black then a transmission service (new fluid and filter) is required.

In addition to letting us know whether it's an automatic or manual transmission, please also provide the engine size and model year. The model year will help us determine if it's throttle by wire or cable. Also, if it's a 1996 or newer, and you are comfortable driving it short distances, you could swing by a local chain auto parts store that will read OBD-II diagnostic codes for free and see if it has any codes. If so, get the full code, in the format P0123, and post back.

You should also consider searching the Nissan Altima forum from this site for the code to see if there is a common cause and solution for your issue.
