Oil filter alternitives

Hello all,
I just wanted to know if anyone ever used an oil filter other then the ones recommended by the auto parts store?
I got a filter from an auto store (not going to mention the name). Drained the oil pulled the filter off grabbed the new one and noticed the hole was smaller. sure enough it won't spin on. Now what? Put the old one back on and rechange the oil once I got the replacement.
I had a NOS oil filter from an escort that I never used. Everything was the same, but just longer. The filter is a Motorcraft FL-400A E4FZ-6731-A.
I have about 100 miles on it. No leaks or oil warning light.
Let me know your thoughts on this. Please be nice.

Re: Oil filter alternitives

I use Purolator 20195 filters. They're quite a bit longer than stock, don't know what it's designed for, just that it works fine. If you don't have air conditioning, you can use the filter for a 5 liter Mustang, some companies call it #1. It's about the size of a quart can, all other specs match our car perfectly.

I've been using a Fram PH-8A from a v-8 ford. It fits fine with no leaks. It holds a lot more oil.

Re: Oil filter alternitives

I use a Baldwin BT223 oil filter. Baldwin is a filter I can trust for extended oil change intervals.
