New 2009 LaCrosse Sr. Citizen Owner Questions, Please

Hello,

Just got a new 2009 Buick LaCrosse.
Trying to program all the options.
Boy, for someone in their 70's, and not having a Computer Science PhD, it's
a bit much.

Can't help thinking back to my cars of the 60's and 70's where they had only a few knobs that were labeled On or Off.
Oh well, can't fight what is pushed at us these days as "progress".
Progress, to me, might include a decent size glove box, and not having all
the warning lights sprinkled all over the spedometer dial. My '97 LeSabre had them neatly and nicely in a row

Have a few simple questions, please.
Rather than have several Posts, will list them (all) here, and if anyone can answer any of them, would be most appreciative.

a. Re the Trip Odometer.
Just can't seem to re-set it to "O".
Pressing the Set/Reset button like the manual says to, does nothing.
Tried both quick and long pushes. Any thoughts ?

b. Car has the upscale automatic dual heating-A/C system option.
It seems that whenever I press AUTO on the temp. control (by the up & down arrows), the light on the A/C pushbutton, and presumably the A/C,actually comes on.

Live in Boston, and it's pretty chilly up here now.

Are there conditions, now, (car temp is always set to 70 degrees) where the A/C might come on by itself ? Or, is it just the light thatshows that the A/C is "enabled," but not actually on ?

c. Has the remote Automatic Dimming mirror.
Can turn the automatic part off.
But once off, there doesn't seem to be any manual way of switching from day to night settings. Is there ?

d. The headlights come on by themselves when it gets cloudy, etc.
It turns on many times when i don't want it to.
But the switch for these headlights is spring loaded to AUTO, and this
enables the automatic On (when it thinks it is needed) to work.
How would one keep this from happening ?
Even at my age, I am capable of turning a switch to On, when I actually want them to be on.

BTW: one of the two roof strip inserts is popping loose a small amount in the front. These are the two strips on the roof that go from the front to the back.
Inconvenient for me to go back to the Dealership now.

What holds them on; clips ?
Think I can push it back by myself ? How ?
Any links that show a cross section, or installation guide, for these things ?
What's below these strips; screws to hold the interior roof liner in place, or... ?

Know a good source for door edge guards ? Dealer doesn't bother with them, and the GM Accessory site doesn't list them.

Much thanks, appreciate it.
Bob

Re: New 2009 LaCrosse Sr. Citizen Owner Questions, Please

Hi Bob,
I think I can help you with A & B.

A: ther trip/odo button has two displays one for a and one for b.
go to the a display and push ther reset button which is the 4th one that has an arrow pointing left. Push the arrow and a display should reset. Push the trip/odo button again and the b display shows. Push the reset / arrow and the b display should reset.

B: The auto temp when on enables the ac to operate if needed. As far as I know the compressor only comes on if cooling is required to maintain the selected temp.

I have never noticed the headlight condition you asked about. Mine seem to do the right thing at the right time.

Jim
