help silverado whining noise

i have a 2005 z71, i was driving and lost two wheel drive the car would not go foward. i was able to put the car in four high and the car drove home. i replaced the transfercase thinking that was the problem since four high moved the truck fine. However, after replacing the transfercase the car would not go into two wheel drive. prior to all this i heard a whinning noise in the differencial, which is besided the point the car will not go foward in two wheel drive.

I believe you lost rear wheel drive ...when you go 4x4 the front wheels gave you the propulsion..

the rear diff is most likely the cause open the cover and inspect for a cause..there is much info on this diff on the internet ..you most likely have the locking one ..this type requires a careful breakin ..and also the fluid must be replaced by cover removal...

most lube shops simply drain by using the plug....then the debris is trapped inside and fluid change is a waste..

as you most likely know operating in 4x4 on solid dry pavement is destructive to the drive train..
