Engine light code p0430

My 2001 Escape with v6 and 138,000 miles the engine light came on and the code scanner showed p0430 catalyst efficiency below threshold bank 2 ? Does anyone ever had this code come up and what was the fix?

I am not sure which is bank 2 on Ford engines, I know that bank 2 on a GM is the passenger side or bank closest to firewall on a FWD, but being that Ford #1 is on the passenger side not the driver side like GM I am not sure. Hopefully someone will chime in and clarify which is bank 2.

Reading The code thread in the WIndstar section of this forum it states that Bank 2 is the driver side or bank closest to radiator.

P0430 from what I have found out could be a bad converter or o2 sensor. The escape runs way to good to be the converter so I'm guessing that it's probably an o2 sensor that's bad. I still need to know were bank 2 is?

Problem solved the po430 code alot of the time could be a bad converter but my escape was not. I got together with a ford mechanic friend of mine and come to find out that ford has a program for the pcm that fixes this problem on alot of different ford v6 engines that started with the contour v6. Ford was changing alot of converters that weren't bad and found that the po430 code was coming up because the pcm was getting a signal that the converters weren't getting hot enough for normal operation. Ford came up with this new program to fix that problem. Yes we installed the new program in my escape problem solved. Thanks for replies.

problem not solved p0430 code is back and the escape has loss a lot of power. The higher the rpm the less power it has not even enough power to shift at high rpm. I am thinking its a bad converter what do you think? the code scanner says p0430 catalyst eff. below threshold bank 2. Which converter is bank 2?
