1997 Grand Cherokee stalls
I have a 97 Grand Cherokee with the 318 c.i. While ideling in the driveway or drive around town at a slow speed it runs perfect. When I get up to highway speed, 40-50 mph, it is like the fuel is shut off to the motor. When I coast to a stop it startes up and runs for a few seconds then won't tkae gas or runs out of gas. I towed it home and when I got home it started up and rans in the driveway. I have replaced the coil and throttle position sensor. The fuel filter in in the tank with the pump. Could this be a fuel problem or another sensor? Thanks

Re: 1997 Grand Cherokee stalls
see if it will show a code . some parts stores such as autozone will scan the codes for free.don't go throwing parts at it ,until you find out which parts you need to throw.get it scanned

Re: 1997 Grand Cherokee stalls
This is similar to another post.....do your catalytic converters rattle? I ask because there's an issue with that year on Dodge trucks with bad converters.
If they're rattling, the loose parts could be migrating and resisting the exhaust flow...so replace them.

Re: 1997 Grand Cherokee stalls
Yes, the catalytic converter does have something rattling in it. I checked it while running once and seemed to be a bit hotter than the exhaust pipes but it was not glowing red like I have seen others in the past.
My next option was to drop the tank and replace the fuel pump/filter. |

Re: 1997 Grand Cherokee stalls
Replaced fuel pump/filter/strainer, fixed problem, runs like new.
