16R for sale at DK Engineering

type Coupe
year 1996
price P.O.R.

After an exceptional first season with the F1 GTR, McLaren were intent on retaining their dominant form throughout 1996. A number of changes were made in preparation for 1996 to the original design to help stay ahead of the F40 GTE''''s. Set-up changes saw ground clearance dropped a further 15mm at the front and a more aggressive chin spoiler affixed that stretched the overall length of the car by 80mm.

Running an unchanged 600bhp engine, mechanical revisions to the ’96 spec F1 were made in the form of an uprated gearbox housed in a lightweight magnesium casing. The gearbox featured stronger shafts, thicker wall casings and wider gear wheels. Weight of the car was also dropped from 1050kg to 1012kg and performance further improved.

The car on offer here is chassis 016R and was part of team Bigazzi for the 1996 season competing at the Le Mans 24 Hours finishing 11th overall with drivers Soper, Lafitte and Duez, the car also ran at Silverstone in the BPR championship finishing 4th overall with Piquet and Soper driving (016R was leading for most of the race but a strategy error caused the car to run out fuel causing it to drop a lap).

Following 016R’s retirement form racing the car was converted for road use by Paul Lanzante and has been painted Historic Orange, a lot of the original parts that were removed have been retained and accompany the car. The car still holds the looks and the power from its original racing days, and is as raw yet useable as it looks. Inside the car has the traditional central driving position with one of the two passenger seats still available. The opposite side holds a fire extinguisher system and race panel incorporating the engine management system. 016R was supplied to its current owner in 2005 by DK. 016R is UK road registered, presented in perfect condition, is on the button and ready to be used.

Shame the credit markets are all frozen up right now as I am a little short on cash.

Sorry to see Mr Bridger letting go of it. He was a fine example of the kind of owner these cars deserve.

Hoepfully someone will restore it to its original Bigazzi/FINA livery and run it in the GT90s series.

I know I would.

Re: 16R for sale at DK Engineering

16r would just do me for christmas! My earnings are just short of a few 0000.Maybe Lewis Hamilton would be interested in buying it,while he try,s to get the LM !
I wonder if the global recession is getting to supercar owners?

I live in the same county as Mr B so will be sad to see the car go .I have never seen it but did meet him at Goodwood 2001 when he let me sit inside his standard F1 & closed the door .Nice chap. I had a dream couple of minutes.

Re: 16R for sale at DK Engineering

I am both stunned and surprised that 16R is up for sale I would have thought that would be one car to hang on to with its le-mans history?
Doubt I will get a shot at it as the market for selling businesses has fallen through the floor.
Do hope it finds an owner who will use it.

Re: 16R for sale at DK Engineering

I would ask but its unethical if i dont have the funds available to even start negotiations.
Felt bad about asking about 11R seen as my funds did not materialise, not doing it again untill my cash is there to buy.

Re: 16R for sale at DK Engineering

This is the only short tail GTR I have wanted being that 01R, 17R, and 18R will never come up for sale. Wish I had the funds for a BMW Motorsport car. :/ I think the asking price at Maranello Motorsport was 1.16 million Euros back in July 2005. I hope whoever buys it converts it back to the FINA livery.

Re: 16R for sale at DK Engineering

I think the Space Shuttle's are incredibly cool, but I'd keep the McLaren personally. I mean if you think that car is fussy imagine trying to operate one of those.
