Fill the gas tank and see if it still is a problem. A low tank of gas will slosh to the side when cornering and if that is what it is doing nothing is wrong. You just need to add some fuel. I always fill the tank on my 97 before I go home from driving. I have 185k on the original fuel pump. If immersed in fuel your pump will run cooler and will be lubricated. A low tank will condensate and the water being heavier than gasoline will go to the bottom of the tank and rust it out. Then the fun starts with clogged fuel filters and clogged injectors
Since the price of gas is way down, fill your tank and keep it full.

I'm still thinking it's a poor quality after market fuel pump from someplace like Autozone, Advance Auto, Pep Boys, etc. instead of a good one from NAPA.

Re: 1991 Ford Escort Gt

I would raise the rear seat and connect wires to the fuel pump at the connector there. Then I would have a small light connected to those wires, set somewhere that I could see it while driving, and go around a corner. ....to see if the light goes out, indicating something (relay or connector) is letting the fuel pump shut off. Another way to do this check would be to have a fuel pressure gauge connected to the fuel rail, but thats usually a lot more expensive than checking the voltage to the fuel pump in 'real time.
I recently replaced the fuel pump in my 92 wagon (1.9) with a unit on ebay made by Walbro ($37). Its run for a few thousand miles now, though I havent cornered hard enough to break traction yet.
