Do all malibus have rear tire wear problems?

Just replaced two rear tires {scalloped}.Car rides nice and quiet now{for the next 10K anyway}.Seems I am always replacing rear tires.I know I dont rotate enough, but if I have to replace them so often I just as well stop rotating and just replace in pairs.Strut feels good,no play in wheel hub.Just wondering if I am all alone.

I would recomend that you have your car aligned, 4 wheel alignment, the back tirs should outlast the front tires 2 to 1. Try to find a shop that has the new imagine sytem for the best alignment possible.

Re: Do all malibus have rear tire wear problems?

I had a '98 (bought new) and now have an '04 Maxx (also bought new). I've never had, or heard, of a problem with rear tire wear. I monitor several forums...

Brakes, now that's another issue....

Re: Do all malibus have rear tire wear problems?

I have a 98 and got 80k out of the first set of Firestone tires. Second set of tires (cheap BF Goodrich) lasted 55k. I think this low mileage was only because of the brand. No tires were cupped/scalloped - just normal wear.

I also have an 05 MAXX and got 66k out of the first set of tires. Probably could have run another 5k, but I was coming up on winter weather and replaced them anyway. Again no scallops - just normal wear.

Scalloping is caused by weak struts or toe in incorrect. Post the year and mileage for more comprehensive info also.

Re: Do all malibus have rear tire wear problems?

The early model Malibus (97) had bad strut mounts on the front and rear. The bad rear strut mounts will ruin any tires, make them noisy etc. A rattling noise coming from the strut location while going over small bumps is a sign the mounts are bad.
