2000XJ - Turn Signals
Hey everyone-
I searched the threads on this one and got close, but my problem is heat related (I think) on one of the components. First, my hazards work fine - all of the time - anytime. Turn signals work fine, only in the morning (or for 1-2 hours of driving). Then, I get one or two clicks, if I'm lucky, when I try to signal. If I turn on the hazards for a few seconds and then try a left or right signal, about 50% of the time I can get one or two clicks and then back to nothing. If I let it sit for an hour or two, the turn signals work fine again, but then the cycle starts over. I took the steering column covers off and checked all of the connections. Nothing is loose. It seems to me that something is getting fussy once it heats up. I'm not an expert on electronics though. Relay? Clockspring? Any suggestions before I go out and buy every wrong part? Thanks, Bryan |

Re: 2000XJ - Turn Signals
Try a new flasher unit. It is a plug-in module that makes the lights flash when electricity flows through the circuit.
I am not completely sure about your particular Jeep, but usually it plugs into the fuse block. Either the owners manual can tell you where it is or an auto parts place can give you the location. BTW usually the hazard flashers use a separate flasher unit, which would explain why they still work. |

Re: 2000XJ - Turn Signals
Thanks MagicRat
I looked into the flasher unit and went ahead and replaced it. I drove around for a few hours this morning and had no loss of turn signals. NAPA part# EP-27 $17.79 Its a combination flasher unit that controls both the hazards and turn signals. Its located under the knee blocker panel of the dash, which is easy to remove. 3 screws on the bottom of the plastic panel. Pull it from the top corners until it pops out. Then 2 screws on the knee blocker and tilt it down to remove. The flasher unit is left of the steering column with foam tape wrapped around it. It takes a little messing around to get it off of the hangar. Unplug and replace. |
