90 k1500 intermittent fuel problems (thats new!)
I have a 90 k1500 5.7 tbi that will shut off driving own the road. I have noticed it usually does it on deceleration. I have changed the fuel pump (bosch), the filter, the and checked the wiring in the pump area. If I turn on the key I hear the pump running/priming.
When it shuts off on me I can restart it with starting fluid but it usually shuts off again when the starting fluid runs out. When this first started, it would continue to run fine after a starting fluid start. If I leave it alone, it will usually start and run fine after 10 minutes or so. I have looked down the intake with it running and the injectors appear to be working properly. The tough part is that it hasn't hard broke long enough to properly troubleshoot it. I have read all the similar problems pretty far back on here and have some ideas (ICM, Ign. switch, pick up coil, pressure reg, injectors,...) but if anyone has any more ideas or ways to T-shoot this without just throwing parts at it I would greatly appreciate the help!! Thanks in advance. |

Re: 90 k1500 intermittent fuel problems (thats new!)
Just because you hear the pump does not mean that it is working properly. I just posted in the other thread and you really need to verify fuel pressure. When a fuel pump is on the way out, it might work when it cools off but fails when it gets hot.
If the fuel pressure is good, it could be pickup coil or ignition module related since the signal from the pickup coil is used to fire the injectors. //2000CAYukon |

Re: 90 k1500 intermittent fuel problems (thats new!)
One thing I just remembered, the truck has shut off on me once right after I started it. It had been sitting all day and I got in it to go somewhere and I made it fifty feet before it shut off. I know it was cold and it didn't shut off because it got hot.
Can I buy that pressure tester anywhere or is it a Snap-On only thing or what? I'm open to suggestons.... |

If you already have a fuel pressure tester, you need an adapter like this http://www.automotive-diagnostic-too...-p/ta37650.htm
A good auto parts store may carry it. I bought the kit from Actron http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16175 but I should warn you that the gauge from the Actron kit will only work with the adapter that comes in the kit. Also make sure the fuel pump ground is clean and tight. It is located on the driver side frame rail near the fuel tank. //2000CAYukon |
