4wd problem

I've got a 95 GMC Sonoma with 162,000 miles on it when shifting out of 4 high while driving down the road it takes awhile for it to disengage. When it does disengage there is a loud/hard bang like when you hit a pothole. When driving in 4 high the whole truck vibrates at speeds over 40mph and it handles weird I don't really know how to explain it but it kinda pulls you around... The truck has a manual transmission and its not the push button 4wd it has the manual lever on the floor. When its not in 4 high it drives perfectly fine

I've had the truck for 5yrs and use the 4wd often especially in winter and have never had any problems before. Any ideas as to whats causing this??

Thanks

Re: 4wd problem

Check all front drive shaft splines and joints.
Check front axel shafts.
Check fluid level.

Is all tires a matched set?
Have you checked tires and rims for bad tire or bent rim?
Any mudd stuck on/in wheels?

On shifting if you stop and go to neutral or back up a little will it come out of 4W ok?
And shift in good?

Does all 4W position lights work good?

Never operate it in 4W on dry payment.

Any viberation in 2W drive?

Has front or back rear end been worked on?
