1997 PA Power Steering
Hey all:
I've noticed a loud whining noise coming from the front of my vehicle when I start to make turns soon after starting up the car. The loud whining will last for approximately 5-10 minutes before it stops (it only makes a noise when I turn. The power steering is still in working order. I checked the fluid today, which was hard to find, and it looked fine. What possibly could be the diagnosis here? Thanks all. DH |

PS pump may need replacing. This whining noise is usually the first warning!

Re: 1997 PA Power Steering
Hmm. What does a power steering pump cost? Can I install this bad boy myself?
Thanks |

Re: 1997 PA Power Steering
Hey,
Turns out I was a little lower on fluid than I thought. I went and picked up a 12 oz bottle of power steering fluid. It took everything but about an ounce. I was sure not to over fill it as well. Hopefully this will stop the whining. |

Re: 1997 PA Power Steering
You must have a leak somewhere, it would be wise to have that checked.

Re: 1997 PA Power Steering
Is there any way that I could have just been low on fluid? I bought the car 4 years ago and haven't touched it since now. The car only has 108,000 on in.

Re: 1997 PA Power Steering
Maybe, just drive around for a while and see if it continues to make the noise. But the pump can't burn the oil, so it must be leaking.
