A question to the kit archaeologists

Can I replace the wind shield frame of older AMT 1961 Buick with an Impala frame from Lindberg kit?

I don't see why not, it may not be an exact fit but if you plan your cuts carefully you should end up w/a strong replacement.

Modelhaus carries resin replacement frames, they have part of the body stubbed in so it's stronger. The carry the '61 Buick windshield frame for $6. They are excellent people to deal with. You can also get a vac-formed replacement windshield, and they have tons of restoration parts for old American car models.

Re: A question to the kit archaeologists

Thanks for the reply. The reason why it might not work is that unlike the original cars, parts of the same GM year cars made be different kit manufacturers are not interchangeable. Even worse, very often there are slightly differences in scale. The kit i was thinking to restore is just 15 US$ cheaper than a Modelhaus new kit. I was hoping to save something more by shipping, which I cannot influence when I order by Modelhaus. I was going to do it only if I can use one of my spare parts. Now that MH frame plus shipping will cost probably 12 US$, it is better to buy a whole new MH kit and avoid unexpected suprises.
