2000 Saturn SL1 idles high
I recently bought my teen daughter a 2000 SL1. It idles high while driving.. it is an automatic and is a base model. When driving the vehicle the rpms rev (like putting on cruise control or resuming cruise control) but it does come down but does this intermittently. But does not stall or have any other issues that we have found so far except passing inspection.
I had problems getting it inspected ... it kept saying NOT READY so finally the dealership had to do a manual exemption. I would love to know how to fix this problem before my daughter gets into an accident because the car has become (Christine) and she is unable to stop quickly enough. Any suggestions??? |

Re: 2000 Saturn SL1 idles high
Bad ECTS. Replace it with a brass one. Look in the s-series section for how.
Possibly a bad intake manifold gasket. spray brake cleaner around the intake gasket near each cylinder. listen for a change in idle. Yes?: bad gasket. 15 bucks at rockauto.com

Re: 2000 Saturn SL1 idles high
I Just had the same issue with my 94. It was almost like the Cruse was on all the time. Had to brake to keep it under 35mph!!! Changed the ECTS and fixed most of it. Had to replace the T stat also. It was never getting warm enough.
The computer cant run a lot of it's self tests if it thinks it is still warming up. |
