Same truck new question...

I just bought a 2001 Chevy blazer 4 x 4 last Friday. I took it in for an oil change today and before they worked on it the check engine light came on for the first time that I have seen. When I got home I hooked up my ODBII scanner and it read the following:

P0440
Evap Emission Control System Malfunction

My 96 Blazer used to get the exact same reading all the time and none of the mechanics I talked or took it to were ever able to give me a straight answer as to what the problem was. I had 2 fuel pumps go out on that truck, am I looking at the same thing here..?

Also, I have a water leak of some sort. I think I have narrowed it down to the top right hand side of the radiator where a large hose is connected, which is the opposite side from the filler cap. I can see that water and coolant is trickling down the side of the radiator from the top. It doesn't "appear" to be a hole in the hose, could it just be the connection between the hose and the radiator somehow..?

Sorry about that.

On rad leak check hose clamp on hose,
If not leaking threre it is new rad time.

On code 440 it is evap emission code.
Start with checking gas cap Clear code and see if it returns.
Leaving cap lose or off or filling with engine running will set the code.

If gas cap does not fix it best to go over the system with a full engine capable scanner.
Check for any other codes and test gas tank vacuum system.

Also look under hood and see if they knocked any hoses or wires off.

I did what you said and I couldn't find anything wrong with the hose or clamp so I took it to the local dealership just in case and they confirmed a small leak right where I thought I saw one.

So the bad/good news is...

That it will cost me quite a bit more to fix or replace the radiator than if it were just a bad hose. But now I know I can make it from LA back to Dallas and just keep an eye the water level each time I stop for fuel.

Hmmm...

I cleared the previous codes and waited for it to alert me again which it did today. I have noticed a pattern, which is that it only posts codes after I have driven it for a while, maybe 10+ minutes, shut it off and then start it again where it posts the codes on start up. And it also posts 2 of the exact same codes at the same time, which never happened with my 96 blazer.

Again it is posting P0440.

I checked the gas cap and it seems to be tight. It is one of those thread anti-strip jobs that you can only turn so far and it starts to click and slip. So I am pretty sure I have it fully tight and sealed but I can never be 1000% sure.

Any input or advice you may have would again be greatly appreciated.
