How to prevent car dings

We have a small 2 car garage at our house. Often, my wife (who parks on the right side of the garage) will ding the passenger side of my car with her door when getting out of her car. Is there any kind of pad that I can affix to her door that will soften the blow of her opening the door?

One can get protective magnetic pads that stick to the side of your car (not hers).

You cannot drive with the pads on; they will blow off. The idea is to stick them on when you park. They are also handy when parking in cramped parking lots.

I found the magentic pads online, but they seem like a real hassle (and apparently people steal them in parking lots). I wonder if there is something that permanently sticks to the edge of her door that would pad the blows to my car.

there are, but i think theyre ugly. you made it sound like you were only worried about the dings happening in the garage, not in public. if youre worried about parking lot door dings, do what i do and park as far away as possible... my car is 4 years old and only has 2 dings, both of which were there when i bought the car

A pad or cover on a car door edge will not stop dents.
Such pads are designed to protect the edge of the door they're on (your wife's) not the door being hit (your's).

The only thing that has prevented dings in my narrow garage are the hated press-on door edge protectors. I have seen some made of different colors and clear, so you're not stuck with black or ugly fake-bling chrome. They have a thin bead of adhesive inside the channel to help hold them on. Ideally, you only need them where the door edge sticks out the most, so just a small length would give you the protection needed.
