Brake Warning Light ?

99 Ford Taurus with 3.0 engine
The brake warning light comes on after you take your foot off the bake pedal then it goes out. The warning light only comes on for a second or two then goes out again.
Any idea what would be causing this ?

Re: Brake Warning Light ?

Have you checked the brake fluid level?

If the level is low, please don't just top it off. The level is low for a reason, either you have a leak or the friction material is sufficiently worn to require replacement.

If the friction material is fine on all four wheels and you don't see an obvious leak, it's possible the fluid is leaking through the master cylinder and into the brake booster. I wouldn't say this is a common failure mode though for the Taurus.

Re: Brake Warning Light ?

Rod,
Adding the brake fluid did the trick. This car is owned by a lady friend who lives in KC. She said she had brakes put on the front about 1 1/2 years ago and she does not have that many miles on them. I told her to keep an eye on the fluid level and if it goes down again to take the car to a shop and have it checked.
Thanks for the good information
