I have this clunk in the front of my wifes 87 z24 5spd i have replace all sway bar bushings ,links,ball joints ,axle shafts both sides. It happens when you back out and turn it will make this snap clunk noise felt in the steering wheel and the floor ,I have checked the spring for binding but they are good,and the wierd thing is that my freinds 90 z24 auto has started to have the same noise. any answers. thanks

intermediate steering shaft. i had the same symptoms, but there was a recall for mine.

I have come to the conclusion that any small looseness in the front end will cause a clunk. It could be shock mounts, steering rack mounting bolts, wheel bearings, or just about anything!! Still haven't fixed mine.

My 04 is doing the same thing. Check the sway bar. Mine is broke off under the rubber bushing where it mounts to the frame cradle. It is hard to notice when looking at it so use a pry bar and move the sway bar... notice if the inside of the bar moves or stays still.
