94 ford escort wagon- fuel pump relay

i am looking for the relay for the fuel pump because i am not hearing the pump start when the key is turned to on.

Hi, welcome to the forum. Not sure about the '94, but these are the locations on the '95 - note that the location differs depending on whether it's the 1.8L or the 1.9L:

Check the inertia fuel shutoff switch first in case that's tripped. The fuses for the fuel pump probably differ between the 1.8 and 1.9, so if you let me know which engine you have I'll let you know which fuses to check, unless you've already done that.

it has a 1.9. I have checked the fuses and am just wondering where the fuel pump relay is. tomorrow I will jack it up and check voltage at the wires going to the pump. i plan on jumping the ground wire straight to ground to bypass the fuel cutoff for troubleshooting purposes. I found a schematic that says the hot wire goes through the fuse first, then to the relay, then to the pump. do you know if that is right?

Yes, I believe that's correct - fuse - to relay - to pump - to inertia switch - to ground, so you can bypass the inertia switch using a separate ground lead just for testing purposes.

It shouldn't be necessary to jack the car up - I believe there's an access plate for the fuel pump and fuel level sensor beneath the rear seat cushion. Actually, you shouldn't even need to disturb the pump access plate, because when you lift the cushion, you should see the electrical connector for the pump and fuel level sensor, and a ground strap.

yep, perfect access panel right under the back seat. that's a time saver.

Not sure if you found relays. In the 95 Hatchback it is located on the hump in front of the console right behind and below the radio.
