95 Caprice Hp?

I Just Got A 95 Caprice 9c1 From A Carlot And I Was Wondering If Anybody Could Tell Me How Much Hp It Came Out With And If Theres Something I Could Do To It To Get More Power That Isn't Gonna Kill My Pocket. Because Right Now When You Have It Flored It Wont Peel Out I Changed The Plugs In It And The Oil And It Still Doesnt Have A Whole Lot Of Power.

Torque is not 243, it's 330.

Re: 95 Caprice Hp?

The 4.3l engine for 94-6 made 200hp 245tq, as said the LT1 was 260hp 330tq. 9C1 could have either engine.

You can have a LOT more power, if an LT1 honestly another 200hp without ever going into the bottom half of the engine no boost no nitrous. A tuneup is always the right place to start though. The distributor cap and rotor are often neglecte on these cars but like all cap and rotor setups are wear items.

First, the phrase "good set of plug wires" and "Accel" should never be used together, unless they are intended to demonstrate mutual exclusivity. Accel wires might be pretty, but you'll do much better with silicone MSD or Packard wires - Preferably the Packards. Make sure you retain the stock plug boot heat shields with whatever wires you install.

Second, the cap and rotor probably should be changed if there is any insulation breakdown in the Opti, but again, Accel is not know for providing a very durable Opti cap/rotor kit.

If you do decide to pursue a "high performance ignition" it will have to be something along the lines of a dynaSpark or DelTeq system to replace the Opti. Neither of those are usually considered a "budget" item, unless you're planning next year's capital expenditure budget.

That said, none of those will provide any extra power unless the stock system is incapable of igniting the mixture due to some heavy performance modifications. Before you run out of spark with a good factory Opti unit, you would need a lot more compression and a lot more RPM than even the comparatively robust stock rotating unit will support.

If you want more power with a reasonable price tag, consider changing the cam to something like a Comp 266HR-14 when you pull the front end to repair/replace the Opti cap and rotor. It's pretty easy in the car:

Re: 95 Caprice Hp?

The Delteq is no longer available, the operator got sick and then many customers had serious issues and he was too ill to be of any help, consider the company gone. LTCC is a better choice if you want a multicoil setup, BUT by all accounts my car makes around 200hp more than stock and I have no issues with the stock ignition system. Ignition "upgrades" on the LT1 are largely a waste of time and money. Ignition maintenance is often neglected.

Thank you for the info, sir. I will stop referring to them as a resource.

BTW - With your times, you might be a tad bit over stock plus 200. Just a guess.

Re: 95 Caprice Hp?

Yeah that is what I meant, depends who you ask, I have been told it makes anywhere from 470-520 at the flywheel based on performance. My guess is that reality is somewhere in between and that those saying 520 were talking STD and those who said closer to 470 meant SAE.
