Louder than normal supercharger whine
Put in a new alternator on the grand prix a few months back and ever since then the supercharger whine has been WAY louder then it used to be, sounds like its comming from near the pully, the s/c has oil, any thoughts? fyi my GP is a 98, nearing 130k miles....

Re: Louder than normal supercharger whine
Are you sure the noise is from the supercharger? Remove the SC drive belt and see if the noise goes away or changes. Also, you can spin the SC pulley by hand after the belt is removed. If the whining is from the snout then you may have snout bearings acting up.

Re: Louder than normal supercharger whine
Did you confirm the noise was from the snout?
All you need is the SC pulley puller to remove the pulley. We have a pulley removal procedure if you use a Pulley Boys brand puller at Tips & Maintenance. Then remove the snout from the main body. Then take the snout to a automotive machine shop to have the old bearings pressed out and new installed. You can get the snout bearings and snout seal from ZZPerformance. The other option is to replace the complete snout with a refurb or new. Note: SC oil must be drained before removal of the snout and after work is done refill with 1 1/2 bottles of GM SC oil.
