Re: timing cover gasket

Timing chain cover gasket? That is RTV, no gasket. Replacement is NOT easy.

Valve cover gasket (much more common for leaks): Easy replacement. You can use RTV, or depending on the year you can get pre-formed gaskets. Should take maybe 30 min at most to change. You can get the gasket at an autostore, online, or at the dealer

Oh ok I didn't know that. about the rtv. When I got the car there was a oil leak and the right hand valve cover bolt was leaking a little. I changed the oring on it and I didn't take the rest off. I really can't tell if the valve cover is leaking. The oil looks like it's coming from further down. I guess I might just take it somewhere and let someone look at it and see what one they say is leaking. Thanks for the headsup.

Maybe I'll be lucky. I don't want to do the timing cover. Valve cover alot easier.

Sorry I guess I should have said it was my saturn sc1. The blazer just needs valve seals to stop the smoking. I'm sure it leaks oil but not bad if it does. My saturn is my daily driver. The blazer is my minitruck project I'm working on and only driving from time to time.
