2001 Sephia tranny problem

Have a 2001 Sephia with automatic tranny. 81,000 miles. Well maintained. Became increasingly harder to shift into any gear until finally the cable from shifter to tranny broke from forcing it into gear. It is now stuck in "Drive". (When it DID go into gear, tranny worked smoothly and flawlessly). Replaced the cable but still can't get it to shift. Tried gently to change gears at the shaft coming out of the tranny but it wouldn't budge. Are there any electronic controls or fuses that I am overlooking? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Very frustrating!
